Turkish Canadian Cultural Association
The Turkish-Canadian Cultural Association was founded on October 3, 1971 by İ. Şeref Alemdağ, Adam Arda, Dilaver M. Dilaver, Vace Kurt, Coşkun Şencan, Adnan Taymaz and Feyyaz Zambakoğlu. Until 1979, the association was not a registered organization. However, on April 17, 1979, it became a legal and registered not-for-profit organization in Canada called the Ottawa Turkish-Canadian Cultural Association, under the administration of the board of directors that consisted of Arif Türkeli (President), Ersin Özerdinç (General Secretary), Polat Kaya, Ali Sulutaş and Kevser Taymaz. The registration of the organization according to the Associations Law in Turkey was finalized in 1981.
The aim of the Turkish Canadian Cultural Association is to bring the Turkish people living in Canada together through various social events and activities, as well as introduce the richness of Turkish culture to Canadians. In other words, our purpose is to contribute to the improvement of mutual understanding, interest and fraternity between Turkish and Canadian people. We believe that enabling Turkish people to experience their own culture under the roof of this association helps create solidarity in addition to positively representing Turkish society in Canada. Along with this understanding, our association organizes various events and activities, such as film festivals, photo exhibitions, concerts and many more. Our activities are supported by both Turkish people living in Canada and Canadians who like to know more about Turkey and Turkish culture.
Our organisation is based on voluntary work. We would be happy to have your support by participating in our events and activities or even taking an active role in the organization.
At the annual meeting of the association on September 11, 2011; Erdem Özcan, Sertan Gün, Şebnem Gavin, Umut Rıza Özkan, Bekır Akça and İsmail Turan were elected to the board of directors. Please find more information about the members of the board on this page.
